Im Tec Cornelious and I immigrated to Canada here is my story
Between 1901 and 1914, over 750,000 immigrants entered Canada from the United States.
I was one of the first to leave to Canada from Ireland
I left my homeland because i can get a better job but i was also forced to leave, the potatoes were rotting in the soil so I couldn't eat it so I had to leave
Between 1845 and 1851, hundreds of thousands of people of Irish came to Canada. They had to leave because when the disease attacked the crop several years in a row, the potatoes rotted in the soil which means the people in Ireland couldn't eat it. So they decided to leave because they thought the potatoes would only rot in Ireland.
One of the challenges i faced was that the food was different in Ireland I used to eat potatoes all the time and now there is french fries which they said is made out of potatoes.
Irish Immigrants often entered the workforce at the bottom of the occupational ladder and took on the menial and dangerous jobs that were often avoided by other workers. Many Irish women became servants or domestic workers, while many Irish men labored in coal mines and built railroads and canals.
