The Union General, Joseph Hooker, ordered a retreat against the Confederates. General Robert E. Lee of the Confederates wanted to take the war further North to where the next battle will be, The town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Union was rekt by Confederates at Chancellorsville
It was July 1st of 1863, Lee's army met up with George G Meade's Cavalry in a small town of Gettysburg. The Union army regrouped at Cemetary Ridge and the battle begun. Robert E. Lee ordered his Generals to attack, but they hesitated, which allowed the Union army to get a strong defense up.
The first day
It was July 2, 1863, Lee ordered a flank on the left of the Union line at Little Round Top. 20th Maine Colonel, Joshua Chamberlain, battled against 15th Alabama Colonel William Oates. Then Confederates pulled back until Afternoon, when they tried to rush Cemetery hill and Culps hill, but only took a few trenches.
The second day
It was July 3, 1863, Lee wanted General George Pickett to rush B real hard, but instead Pickett chose to Rush A. 15000 Confederates took part in Pickett's Charge. After the 50 minute battle, Confederates lost more than 7500 men and ordered a retreat back to Virginia.
