And I'm Charles Grandison Finney and today we are going to be talking about the 2nd Great Awakening
the 2nd great awakening was a protestant religious revival during the early 19th century in the U.S.
and it also increased membership among Baptist and Methodist congregation whose preachers led the movement.
Like Barton Stone I as well was a Presbyterian minister but I was a leader in the Second Great Awakening often referred to as The Father of Modern Revivalism.
Now a little bit about us I helped lead the mammoth Cane Ridge Revival, a meeting ment for worship, preaching, and communion and it was the largest and most famous camp meeting of the Second Great Awakening.
I am also for the abolition of slavery and equal education for women and African Americans because of my religious beliefs. I also taught at Oberlin College of Ohio which accepted students without regard to race or sex. While I was president for the school faculty and students were activists for universal education, abolition, and the underground railroad.
My followers were called New Lights and Stoneites but I joined my followers with those of Alexander Campbell, a former Presbyterian minister who was doing his own thing like forming the Restoration Movement.
