Storyboard Text

  • That's conduction, when heat is transferred through physical touch.
  • Ouch! I burned my hand!
  • That's convection, when heat rises and the cold sinks.
  • Look, steam is rising from the pot!
  • That's radiation, when heat travels through empty space.
  • I can feel the heat coming off of the stove..
  • Well, because of the thermal equilibrium, thermal energy moves from hot to cold!
  • Wow, this all really makes me wonder how thermal energy moves!
  • Heat never stops moving until the object's temperature hits zero. It moves in a predictable pattern.
  • Have you ever heard of the law of conservation of energy, mom? Energy is never created nor destroyed, it just changes form.
  • That really makes me wonder..what happens when energy disappears?
  • Wow, I've learned so much on thermal energy today. Thank you!
  • So you're saying that even after i put the fire on the stove out, the thermal energy is still there?
  • Yes! But that doesn't necessarily mean that it's still thermal energy.
