The Salt March 1930
With this, I am shaking the foundations of the British Empire.
Gandhi thrown from train in South Africa for being a non-white person in first class in 1893.
I paid for a first-class ticket, but have to sit in third because of my race?
Gandhi jailed after Salt March in 1930.
I do not care if I am arrested. I am fighting for what I believe in.
In 1930, Gandhi and 78 of his followers walked 240 miles to the shore of the Arabian Sea, where Gandhi declared that he would soon "shake the foundations of the British Empire."
Gandhi was asked to move to a third-class car so a white passenger could have a seat. Gandhi refused to move, so he was thrown off the train.
After the Salt March, Gandhi was imprisoned for seven months. But, many of his followers were inspired, and followed his example, even if it meant they were beaten and arrested.
