  • Nelson Mandela
  • Nelson Mandela was born into a clan called the Madison clan.  He lived there for 22 years. His father died when he was just a little kid.
  • What started his passion for freedom
  • At a very young age, Nelson Mandela was told about stories of his ancestors valor during the wars of resistance. This started his passion to help  his people from the struggle of freedom.
  • Why he ran away from home
  • Nelson Mandela loved his people and got into a school protest which got him expelled from the school. The king was furious with him and told him that he was going to have an arranged marriage with his cousin. Because of this, Mandela ran away and started to work at a coal mine.
  • Non Violent Actions
  • Mandela joined an organization called African National Congress. He practiced civil disobedience and boycotts to try to get rid of apartheid.
  • Act that made Mandela turn to violence
  • On March 21, 1960, the police killed 69 unarmed civilians protesting against apartheid which made Mandela try a new tactic of trying to stop apartheid.

  • Nelson Mandela Lead an arm struggle and establiched an organization called Umkhonto weSizwe. On 16 December 1961, The Umkhonto weSizwe set of a series of explosions in South Africa
