  • EXPOSITION
  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  •  It is lottery day in the village and everyone is gathered in the center of town. The boys our collecting rocks and putting them into a pile, while other boys try to steal them and the girls are chatting.
  • CLIMAX
  • Mr.Summers arrived carrying the black wooden box that was used to draw papers from. The man that draws the paper with a black dot, has his family entered into the lottery. The family member that draws the black dot, wins the lottery and then gets the special prize. 
  • FALLING ACTION
  • As Mr.Summer stirred up the papers, suspense grew in the room between the families. Mr.Summers makes sure everyone is there and begins calling names.
  • RESOLUTION
  • After everyone has picked a paper, Mr.Summers tells all the men and Mrs.Dunbar to look down at there paper.  Bill Hutchinson looks down at his paper to see the black dot.
  • Since Bill had the dot, his family is entered into the lottery. Mr. Summers puts in 5  pieces of paper for the five members of the Hutchinson family(Davy, Nancy, Tessie, Bill and Bill, Jr.). All of the members of the family get a paper and put it in there hands, then they all open the paper.
  • Tessie is the one with the dot on her paper. The dot means that she will get stoned. All the villagers gather around her and start throwing stones.
