Socs V.S Greasers
In this scene, the setting affects Ponyboy because it changes how he sees Johnny. First, he saw Johnny as the scared pet of the gang, then when he saw him kill bob, he was surprised, he knew johnny wouldn't hurt a living thing, but when they saved those kids from the fire, he saw him as a hero. Being in the fire didn't just change how he saw Johnny, it changed how he saw the world
Johnny was Ponyboys best friend when he died, Ponyboy was in grief. Although Ponyboy & Johnny were very different, they went through many hardships together that made them closer. He knew life would never be the same without Johnny.
The War between Socs & Greasers is very important in Ponyboys life. If not for the gang Ponyboy would be a Soc, He had the Brains and Brawns of a Soc, what made him a Greaser was the gang. If there were no Socs, Ponyboy's life would be very different.
