  • Jane is trying to read but her cousins interrupt.
  • “What do you want?” I asked, with awkward diffidence. “Say, ‘What do you want, Master Reed?’” was the answer. “I want you to come here;” (pg 14)
  • Jane wakes up in the nursery and is very ill. The doctor comes to help Jane.
  • “Well, who am I?” he asked. I pronounced his name, offering him at the same time my hand: he took it, smiling and saying, “We shall do very well by-and-by.” Then he laid me down” (pg 29)
  • Mr. Brocklehurst is yelling at Jane because she broke her plate and he thinks she is a lier.
  • “A careless girl!” said Mr. Brocklehurst, and immediately after—“It is the new pupil, I perceive.” (pg 96)
