All of the children gathered stones as their parents and the other adults of the village gathered around the box to begin the lottery.
Mr. Summers started calling the names of the people in the village to draw slips for the lottery.
The villagers opened their slips. Soon it was known to all that Mr. Hutchinson received the slip with the black dot.
The Hutchinson's walked up to the front and drew slips of paper. Leslie then opened the slip with the black dot and the villagers started heading towards the pile of rocks.
The children and adults started collecting rocks and throwing them at Leslie. They didn't understand why, but this was a tradition and nothing could stop them.
