"Darius The Great Is Not Ok" By - Adib Khorram The story begins in the Kellner house with Darius as the main character, Laleh, his sister, Mom and Dad. Darius works at Tea Haven in the shops at Fareview Court. He is lonely in school and is bullied by the "Minions Of Orthodoxy."
Darius and his family go to Iran to see his grandfather (Babou), with a brain tumor. This is Darius's first time in Iran and he doesn't know what to expect. And with his father making fun of him for having depression and eating big portions, he doesn't expect things to get any better, until the trip changes his life.
Darius doesn't make friends easily, so when he meets Sohrab, (a neighborhood boy), he is sure that he will make fun of him because of his depression and lack of friends. However, it is the total opposite of what he expected. Sohrab was his first REAL friend and they end up hanging out with eachother everyday.
Sohrab and Darius had made plans to play soccer the next afternoon. So, Darius had walked over to Sohrab's house. He knocks the door and see's Sohrab's uncle very sad. Darius later see's Sohrab and his mom crying. Darius later finds out that Sohrab's dad had died in prison. Darius tries to make Sohrab feel better but he ends up getting angry at Darius for coming at a bad time. Darius starts crying and his dad finds him and they talk in a way that had never been spoken before.
Sohrab's dad had died a day before Darius's birthday, so Sohrab and Darius got together to talk.Sohrab gave Darius a framed photo of the both of them for his birthday. Darius LOVED it! In addition to this, Sohrab apologized for talking to him badly the day before.
Darius goes back to school and realizes that he can handle the bullies. After playing soccer so much with Sohrab, he got really good at it! Coach noticed him in school and offered him a spot on the team. Darius realized that Iran has changed his life in the best way possible! He now understands his family better and lives a happy life.
