Nurse! Help me! I have mysterious sores on my skin, and my muscles are in pain. What is wrong with me?
It appears you have leprosy. But don't worry- it is totally curable. Follow me to the exam room.
What exactly is leprosy? I know I read about it in the Bible before...
Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by a bacteria, Mycobacterium leprae. It is also called "Hansen's disease".
Well, leprosy is spread by contact with bodily fluids from an infected person. You probably inhaled a droplet from somebody who sneezed--
How did I get this disease?
Now that I think about it, my sister has similar sores on her skin. She probably has leprosy too! She must have coughed on me at one point in time...
That makes sense. You said she had lesions on her skin. Did she also complain about muscle weakness or nosebleeds? Was her skin pale-colored or dry?
