  • Welcome to the Somkuti empire Human body tour!
  • Please take a seat as we are entering the first system - The digestive system.
  • The first thing that happens is mechanical digestion, or in layman's terms, Chewing.
  • As a human chews, the food is broken down with saliva, which contains chemicals called enzymes.
  • Enzymes help break food into smaller particles.
  • Oooh!
  • Now we are being pushed to the back of the throat. You'll notice that there are two pipes.
  • We are entering the Esophagus- the food pipe. The other pipe is called the Trachea- the air pipe.
  • What's that flappy thing covering the Trachea?
  • Ah! Good observation. That is called the Epiglottis. It protects the Trachea so we don't choke.
  • After the esophagus, we enter a process called peristalsis. The peristalsis is an action of two muscles contracting. It pushes our food down to the stomach.
  • Cool!
  • Now we enter the stomach. Food gets broken down even more in here, by  Gastric juice.
  • Gastric juice is made of enzymes, hydriodic acid and mucus. As you can see we're all covered in mucus because of the acid. The mucus protects the stomach so the acid doesn't burn it.
  • EWW!
  • Then bile is released from the Gall bladder, which is stored in the liver. The bile then breaks up the big pieces of lipids.
  • We are now in the small intestine which is actually bigger than the large intestine. In this organ, enzymes are sent from the pancreas, which breaks up the food more.
  • The small intestine's walls are covered with villi, which contain blood vessels that move the smaller pieces of food to different body parts
