  • Exposition: Doodle is introduced as a special needs child, and the setting is revealed through a dark description of the death tree.
  • Conflict: MAN vs MAN, MAN vs SELF, MAN vs NATUREThe narrator is trying to teach Doodle how to be normal.
  • "Did you not just hear me Doodle? I said you HAVE to walk to be normal like me!
  • Rising Action: Doodle learns how to walk, and the narrator puts on a big show for his family. His pride starts getting the best of him
  • Doodle can walk? IT'S A MIRACLE! Thank you sweetie! You've done what doctors couldn't do!
  • CLIMAX: (change in situation) The brother has died as a result of his brothers pride
  • Falling Action: The narrator lays with his dead brother and makes the connection of Doodle looking like the dead scarlet ibis. He cried for his "fallen scarlet ibis"
  • Resolution: The narrator was deeply impacted by the death of his brother. This resulted in him writing a story about his actions and his baby brother.
