-Faustus is an smart man but still is not satisfied. -He calls his friends Valdes & Cornelius to help him with black magic. -Though his good angel tells him not to, Faustus still gets Wagner to summon his friends. -They agree and say that together they can be very powerful. Themes: Sin, Desperation
-Faustus decides to try black magic for the first time. -He draws satanic symbols and lights a ring of fires. -He reads a passage that includes summoning the help of the underworld. Themes: Magic and the Supernatural
-Mephistophilis appears. -He is happy that he feels he has mastered magic as he was able to conjure Mephistophilis. -However, he later finds out it wasn't him, a devil appears whenever someone goes against God. -We learn Mephistophilis is a fallen angel. Themes: Magic and the Supernatural
-After Mephistophilis leaves two angels (good & bad) appear -The good tries to make Faustus repent and turn back to God -The bad angel fuels Faustus' sinful aims. Themes: Divided nature of man
-Wagner knows that the clown is desperate enough to sell his soul for a shoulder of mutton. -Th clown agrees. -Wagner then asks him to be his servant saying if he refuses he will have lice tear him to pieces. -He gets two devils to scare the clown and he agrees to serve him. Themes: Desperation
-Mephistophilis tells Faustus that Lucifer agrees to the contract but it must be signed in blood. -Faustus cuts himself but as he begins to write his blood congeals. -Mephistophilis gets fire to help the blood flow, once the contract is signed Faustus makes Mephistophilis take it to Lucifer right away. Themes: Damnation, Desperation
