  • Guy Bluford was a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot. He flew 144 combat missions during the Vietnam War.
  • Bluford was selected from 10,000 applicants to become a space shuttle astronaut. He served as a mission specialist on 4 flights and spent more than 28 days in space.
  • Bluford was inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame in 1997 and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2011, he received the Pennsylvania Society's Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement. He is proud to be a Pennsylvanian, Philadelphian, and Penn Stater.
