Most people think that alcohol isn't as harmful as other drugs. But the the truth is that alcohol increases your risk for many deadly diseases, like cancer. Drinking too much too fast can lead to alcohol poisoning, which is deadly.
People also think that beer and wine is safer than liquor. But ince again, that's not true. Alcohol is alcohol, and it can cause problems no matter what. One 12-ounce bottle of beer or a 5-ounce glass of wine has as much alcohol as a 1.5-ounce shot of liquor. Alcopops that are laced with salt liquor often have more alcohol than beer.
Just because adults drink, doesn't mean kids should be able to. Children's brains and bodies are still growing. If they drink alcohol, it can cause them learning problems and lead to adult alcoholism. People who start drinking before age 15 are five time more likely to abuse or become dependent on alcohol, rather than those who wait until 21.
It's common to have the mindset that nothing will happen if you drink. Well, truth is that if you're under 21, it's illegal. If you get caught, you may have to pay a fine, do community service, or take alcohol awareness classes. Kids who drink are also more likely to get bad grades in school, and are at a higher risk for being a crime victim.
Kids drink to fit in becaause other kids drink. Ifyou really want to fit in, don't drink. Most young people don't drink alcohol. Research shows that more than 70% of young people aged 12 to 20 haven't had a drink in the past month.
Teens also think that drinking alcohol will make them cool, but there's really nothing cool about the side affects. It's not cool to be stumbling around, passing out, or puking on yourself. Drinking alcohol also can cause bad breath and weight gain.
Lots of teens drink because they think it's a good way to loosen up at parties. It's actually a dumb way to loosen up. Drinking can make you act silly, say thongs you shouldn't say, and do things you wouldn't normally do, like get into fights or have sex.
Almost everyone thinks that if they drink coffee and take a cold shower, they will sober up quickly. That very false. In fact, on average it take 2 to 3 hours for a single drink to leave the body. Nothing can speed up the process including drinking coffee, taking a cold shower, or "walking it off".
