The story takes place sometime in the 90s in Bothell, a small town in Washington. Nick grows up in a tough town with bad neighbors right across the street who commit terrible crimes. Nick also lives in a poorer part of Bothell. Nick lives and breathes basketball.
The conflict in Night Hoops is that Nick is struggling to play good basketball, he keeps on making the wrong plays. He cost the team their first two losses of the season in which they could've won if Nick hadn't of messed up.
I've got to help Zack. He has always helped me.
Because of Nick's choices and style of play from the first two games, he is placed on third team. Third team is bench players and people who don't play. Therefore, Nick has to sit out and watch while everyone else is practicing.
WE won. We won the championship.
Zack, Trent's brother shoots Michael Ushovoka with a gun. Katya, Scott's "girlfriend" is Michael's sister. After Trent told Nick this he doesn't know what to do or what to tell Trent other than to stay here at Bothell and play basketball and let Zach deal with what he did.
Trent tells Nick that he is leaving Bothell to go find Zack after the championship game. Nick wants Trent to stay and is mad that he keeps telling him that he's going to leave soon. So, Nick tells Trent to not even show up to the last two games and to just leave. After Nick told him this he didn't show up to the next game. Trent also has not been going to school and basketball practice.
Stay here Trent.
Bothell was playing the championship game, they were down by 16 at the half. Nick and his team started the third quarter, but then Nick got hit with an elbow and got a bloody nose so he went to the locker room to get a towel. Then, he found Trent sitting on the bench in his uniform. Nick told him to come play with him and his team needed Trent. So Trent went out with Nick and his team and they won. It was the first time Bothell had won the championship in 27 years.
