  • Major John Pitcairn.  British army retreats from Lexington. British army totalled 73 dead with 200 wounded or missing. It was the first battle of the American Revolution. This was also the first sign of war.
  • Yorktown, Virginia
  • General Horatio Gates, General Burgoyne  Burg General Burgoyne surrenders at Saratoga, October 17. The Americans gained alliance with France. This helped the United States prove to France that they could win the war. America had experienced significant victories.
  • Women's Roles
  • General George Washington General Henry Hamilton. The Continental army gets trained during the winter by von Steuben. Lafayette commands with Frenchman to provide uniforms and muskets. This long winter proved the spirit of loyalty for their country in these harsh conditions. News about of alliance between America and France improved their morale a little further.
  • War at Sea
  • General George Washington Lord Cornwallis The second in command surrenders his general sword to Washington. The last major battle of the American revolution war ends. This was the last major battle of the American Revolution war. The war was a example for many other countries around the world to fight for freedom and independence. 
  • Mercy Otis Warren, Abigail Adams, Sybil Ludington, Women. Boycotts against the British, freely voicing liberty and independence, Spying, and warning. Espionage, working, and behind-the-scene actions. These roles were important during the revolutionary war while battles were being fought. Women also had importance even if their rights were left out in the US Constitution.
  • John Paul Jones. Protection for the US shipping industry, damaging Britains, help from French and Spanish navies. A stolen British ship, British economy damaged. This was a war outside of land to protect the US while they battled on land. The war was a big morale boost.
