As I enter the warm up room, all I can see is other teams staring. Many teams try to intimidate the other cheerleaders in the room in hopes that it will effect their performances. Rumors have been going around that Middleboro might actually have a chance this year, and that people need to start watching out for them.
Standing in a circle before going onto the mat we all chant M-I-D-D-L-E-B-O-R-O! As we all walk onto the mat, nerves are high, but we know we must pull out a great routine. As I compete, it feels like time is flying by, and once i get off the mat I cant remember if all my stunts hit or if i landed my tumbling because of how much adrenaline i had. But the reassuring hug from my teammates gave me hope that this routine was a good one.
Finally its the awards ceremony, we all crowd the mat and sit together as a team. When our division is called everyone holds hands and put there heads down. Second and third place are called first and that when I started to worry. Middleboro didn't get called, being a person who doesn't get there hopes up too high and just thought, maybe next time but then it happened, "And the regional champs are... MIddleboro High school!" The whole team started crying, in that moment i felt like all my hard work had finally paid off.
Walking onto the warm up mat, i remind the girls, no looking at the other teams, and no talking. We give other teams the respect they deserve even if they don't give the same to us. The girls go through their stunts and tumbling, and are doing a great job, the pyramid is looking a little shaky though. I have confidence that the girls will pull through on the competition mat though.
Watching the girls walk onto the mat is always so exciting, i cant wait to watch them preform and give it there all. cheering and shouting for them i cant keep in my excitement, they hit a clean routine.
Standing at awards, I hear second and third place called, neither of them are us, at that point i know, we are regional champions. I look over at my team in a circle, seeing that they are upset but then first place is called, we all start shouting and crying, finally we have won Regionals!
