  • the light passes through the pupil, the iris (the coloured bit) has muscles that expand and contract to control how much light gets in. The lens focuses light onto the retina 
  • vitreous humour 
  • optic nerve carries info to the brain
  • In the retina, neurons called photoreceptors convert the electromagnetic energy into electrochemical energy so that the cones and rods can process it
  • cones - used for daylight vision, seeing fine detail and colour
  • rods - see at nightime and are good for peripheral vision
  • photoreceptors - cones and rods are types of photoreceptors
