#### Storyboard Text

• The base is the number that will have the little number above it called the exponent the base is the bigger number.
• Eponents are a number that raises the base number to a power, like 2 cubed is just 2*2*2 which equals 8.
• What are exponents mom?
• The is the quotient rule if the bases are the same and your dividing subtract the exponents.
• The product rule is if the bases are the same and your multiplying then add the exponents.
• The power to power rule is if there are two powers multiply them and the answer is the power you use for the base number.
• Okay mommy I think I get it.
• Now for negative exponents A negative exponent just means that the base is on the wrong side of the fraction line, so you need to flip the base to the other side.
• I think I'm starting to get it.
• An example of multiplying exponents 23 ⋅ 24 = 23+4 = 27 = 2⋅2⋅2⋅2⋅2⋅2⋅2 = 128
•  132 = 19.Is it
• Now see if you can solve this example for negative exponents 3−2    −3−2   (−3)−2    (−3)−3
• very good!
