After my father chopped off his thumb I decided to sign on with the voyageurs so my family can make it through the winter.
I feel very homesick after leaving St.Annes. My brigade makes fun of me for being the smallest voyageur on the canoe, and my muscles are screaming for a break. I hope these months go by fast.
Our first set of rapids! We decided it would be better to just portage than try to go down them,My pack felt like a boulder on my back, and my blisters are starting to bleed very baddly.
We finally made it to Lake Superior! The water was cold as ice and very scary. It felt like it took years to cross that lake. And I guess it felt good to get back on the canoe. But the weather was awful, the rain felt like rocks, and the cold was like getting your hands bit .And when water got in the boat we had to use kettles to get it out.The paddling was like all my wounds were reopened and my musles being ripped apart.
After seeing the trading post int the distance it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders and replaced with electricity.
I have decided I am going to return to Lachine with my brigade.I have been away from my family to long and would like the pleasures of sleeping in my own bed one night.
