Odysseus was coming back from his long journey from Troy. All of a sudden his ship wrecks and he submerged into the water and swam to the island. He spent 7 years as a captive who might've enjoyed his time there. Soon enough Hermes requested to Calypso for Odysseus' unimprisonment. Consequently she offered to give him immortality and he shunned her. He then left to continue his voyage to get home.
