  • Documentation and exploration of western lands led to awareness and excitement of western land. 
  • Important writing and reports by John Wesley Powell and George Perkins March motivated Congress to look towards trying to preserve and protect beautiful environments in Western America
  • In response to this congress founded Yellowstone national park on March 1st, 1872
  • Efforts from famous environmentalists have helped preserve and protect more national parks such as Sequoia national park in California saving the red wood forest.
  • But despite efforts to conserve and protect national parks, the once pristine environments have continued to decline.
  • The creation of National Parks be signed into law in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson. The national parks encouraged western migration and today give a sense nationalism and pride for lands are distinctly American, and the protection of national parks would ensure the safe keeping of beautiful environments.
