Abe Lincoln was the President of the United States from 1861 to 1865. He entered the office of the president as the primary goal to hold the union together. Though as the civil war broke out and under some pressure from Fredrick Douglas he Emancipated Slavery in 1862.

Ulysses S. Grant first lead campaigns in Tennessee. He lead Union troops at the battle of Shiloh. This was Union victory though a very costly one.

The Unions Military Strategy the Anocoda plan. In this plan, the Union would cut off Southern Supply lines to European power to prevent trade and stall the South's economy. The North would also start offensives to try and cut off and break apart the South.

The Union has a huge population advantage compared to the South. The Norhthad population of 22 million the South only 11 million (including enslaved persons). This gives the North the advantage because it more people in the Army, more people to but war bonds, and more people to work in the factories.
