Storyboard Text

  • Each day, 22 million tons of carbon dioxide released into the air are absorbed by the world's oceans
  • The effect? Seawater is becoming more acidic which is creating life threatening problems for all different types of marine life
  • Seawater is becoming more acidic due to the increase in carbon pollution being pumped into the air
  • Because of that increase, coral reefs are collapsing, oyster beds disappearing and tiny creatures that are vital food sources are getting smaller and weaker.
  • The animals getting hit first are shell-forming animals like corals, crabs, oysters and urchins because ocean acidification is taking the compounds these creatures need to build shells and skeletons out of the water
  • Once the animals at the bottom of the food chain start being affected and their population decreases then all the animals above them will be affected due to lack of rood
