  • Flowers for Algernon
  • The Motif: Innocence!
  • The opposite of innocence
  • Book by Daniel Keyes Motif by Lauren Watt
  • Algernon
  • Innocence can be something that is blameless or nice. Something innocent is usually something you think you can trust.
  • Charlie (before surgery)
  • The opposite would be something untrustworthy, something that is dangerous.
  • Charlie (as a young child)
  • MINE!
  • Algernon the mouse was very innocent the whole length of the story because he couldn't do anything to stop himself from dying because of the surgery.
  • Before surgery Charlie was a retarded adult who was going to get a surgery that would " make him a genius." Charlie worked at a bakery where his "friends" would make fun of him and since he didn't understand, he would laugh with them.
  • Charlie didn't know how to act as a kid and everyone always took advantage over him. His sister hated him for being retarded because kids teased her about it. His mom tried to hide the fact that he was different. His dad gave up on him. When his sister asked for a dog he offered to help take care of it and she got angry.
