- This story takes place in Mississippi 1933, during the Great Depression.
- This main character is a 9 year old girl named Cassie,along side her three brothers Stacey, Little man and Christopher John. She also lives with her mother, father, grandmother and family friend, Mr.Morrison.
- The main antagonists are Mr.Granger, the person trying to get the Logans land, The Wallaces, who own the Wallace store and have a history of burning black people, and the Simms.
- The Logan’s face a lot of racism from the town folks, while trying to keep their land land from Mr.Granger
- My Land!!
- Since T.J has been hanging out with the Simms boys, they coaxed him into helping him steal the pearl-handed pistol from the Barnett’s, killing Mr.Barnett in the process. T.J runs away, and goes to the Logan’s to tell them.
- The whites find out and know it was T.J, but don’t know it was also R.W and Melvin. So Mr.Granger, Mr.Simms, Mr.Wallace and the other white people go to the Averys to try to punish them, and also try and go to the Logan’s and punish them too, but Papa starts a fire to prevent that.
