Karana, Ramo, and the rest of the tribe leaves with with the Spanish men and might never see their island again. While Karana starts boarding the ship, Ramo runs back to the island and grabs his fishing hook. He doesn't know that the ship starts to leave without him.
Karana boards the ship with the rest her tribe. She brigs all she can carry and soon realizes that Ramo is still on the island alone. She worried and doesn't know if she see him again.
Karana starts panicking and asked the Captain if he can turn the ship around and get Ramo. But he doesn't understand her language and doesn't turn the ship around. She keeps talking to him but he ignores her and the ship keeps moving. So Karana gathered up all her courage and jumps off the ship.
After she jumps off the ship, Karana goes back to the island to save Ramo. She drowned her basket and skirt to go back. Now she is back with Ramo on the island.
When Karana got back to the island, Ramo runs and greets her. She says she's going to give him a punishment for staying on the island. But she nevers gives him a punishment. She's just very angry.
Karana now realizes that herself and Ramo are stuck on the island forever. The ship never turned around and she feels like she is going to live here for the rest of her life. As she watches the ship go, Ramo asked if the ship will ever come back for them. But she responds that it will never come back.
