Athen childhood could be seen as similar to childhood or kids now. They played with other kids and the boys went to school. But the girls had to stay home and learn how to take care of a home with her mother.

Spartans did not believe in education. They sent their boys to military training at age 7. And they made the girls also do military training, they had to serve for most of their lives.
Spartan men had to go through harsh military training from ages 7 to 30. And Spartan women also had to go through similar training because once the men left for war the women would have to defend the city-state.
Sparta discouraged trade, they believed that they should grow and hunt their own resources. And if there was something that they needed that they couldn't get themselves they would steal and take it from others.
