  • Elegy Poems are often a melancholy poem that laments its subject’s death
  • A Sonnet is a poem of an expressive thought or idea made up of 14 lines, each being 10 syllables long. 
  • A Free Verse Poem does not follow any rules.  Rhyming, syllable count, punctuation, number of lines, number of stanzas, and line formation can be done however the author wants in order to convey the idea.
  • An ode is a kind of poem, usually praising something.
  • A Haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world.
  • A Qasida laudatory, elegiac, or satiric poem in Arabic, Persian, or any of various related literatures
  • An epic poem is a long, narrative poem that is usually about heroic deeds and events that are significant to the culture 
  •  A Sijo an unrhymed Korean verse form appearing in 3 lines of 14 to 16 syllables and usually in English translation in 6 shorter lines.
  • Villanelle A nineteen-line poem divided into five tercets and a closing quatrain. Has a regular rhyming scheme and two refrains that are echoed in each stanza.
  • Limerick poems are humorous, frequently bawdy, verse of three long and two short lines rhyming aabba, 
  • Ballad are lyrical rhythm and rhyme nod to the fact that this poetic form is rooted in song. Performed at dances in time with the music.
  • Sestina is usually an unrhymed poem that consists of six six-line stanzas and a three-line envoy, or a short concluding stanza, at the end. Each stanza repeats the end words of the lines of the first stanza, but in a different order.
