That eye...that Evil Eye... I must rid myself of it!
The narrator is driven to kill the old man because of his “Evil Eye”. Every morning the narrator asks the old man how he slept.
The narrator watches the old man in his sleep every day for eight days waiting for the old man’s eye to open.
The narrator makes a sound and the old man wakes up, the narrator stays still watching the old man’s “Evil Eye”.
The narrator killed the old man by dragging the bed over him. The narrator then dismembered and hid his body under the floorboards of the bedroom.
The police come to the house to investigate a report. The narrator invites them in. While the police are chatting away, suspecting nothing, the narrator keeps hearing the dead old man’s heartbeat, and it keeps getting louder and louder.
The heartbeat keeps getting louder and louder, so loud to the point that the narrator thinks the police are mocking him with their polite conversation. The narrator can't take it anymore so he lifts up the floorboards revealing the body, telling the police that he murdered the old man.
