rubbing alcohol
Is that *sniff* *sniff*
Brent knows whenever he goes to the hospital he has to take painful shots (Unconditioned Stimuli). The shots make him feel afraid (Unconditioned Response).
Brent, you are just afraid of the smell (conditioned stimuli) and and crying(conditioned response). No one is going to give you a shot
Here, Brent notices doctor always uses rubbing alcohol on his arm before he gives him a shot of injection.
rubbing alcohol
Alexa and Brent are home. Alexa accidently gets a cut and she uses rubbing alcohol to clean it.
Alexa explains him that he is afraid (Conditioned Response) of the smell of rubbing alcohol (Conditioned stimuli) because of its relation with painful shots from the hospital (stimuli)
Over the time Brent was exposed to the smell of rubbing alcohol very often and he stopped felling fearful when he smells rubbing alcohol. Extinction has taken place.
