  • We have finally created the first constitution and our first government!
  • And the individual states have the most power under it. It will be different from when we were under the power of King George!
  • Articles of Confederation
  • Because we made it that way! It cannot have too much power.
  • Could it be a weakness? It doesn't seem to be doing good for our country. There are many problems that could arise because of this.
  • The federal government doesn't have enough power over the states!
  • The Constitutional Convention of 1787
  • Perhaps we could increase federal power.
  • We have come here today to discuss the flaws of the Articles of Confederation. What do you suppose we should change?
  • And also possibly create a stronger army for protection.

  • The Articles of Confederation was a document that was the first constitution of the United States. It established the first government. Under the Articles, individual states held the most power.
  • The most significant weakness of the Articles of Confederation was that federal government didn't have enough power over the states. For example, they didn't have the authority to resolve problems between and in the states, which later led to disunity between the states.
  • The purpose of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 was to call delegates to Philadelphia to discuss the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and how they could change it. For example, they wanted to increase federal power and create a stronger army.
