Siddhartha was born as a prince around 563 B.C. His father ruled a kingdom in what it now Nepal. Siddhartha was lied to about how the world worked.
Siddhartha was raised in wealth and luxury. As he grew up his father protected him from unpleasant things along the way. He didn't want him to see poorness, sickness, or death in his life.
One day when Siddhartha was rode out on his chariot, he saw a man leaning on a stick looking bored. The second time he rode out he saw a man that looked shrunken by disease. On his third ride he saw a man that had died. His servant told him that people grow old, get sick, and die.
One day Siddhartha went out on his chariot to find the truth about life. He began his search by studying with the Hindu Gurus. The taught Siddhartha that life was a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. This upseted Siddhartha and went on leaving the gurus.
Siddhartha went on and met another group called the Ascetics, who practiced extreme self-denial for their religious life.He was practicing for over five years and hid body was very weak; from only eating a grain of rice with a bowl of milk a day. One day he fainted then woke up. He left the Ascetics because of their religion.
As Siddhartha's strength returned, He sat under a fig tree too meditate. He said that he wouldn't leave the tree until he finds truth. Siddhartha meditated there for 49 days. Finally Siddhartha found truth when he went deeper into his meditation. He entered a life free of desire and suffering. He finally achieved enlightenment.
