  • France fell into a financial crisis. Panicked, and clueless for a solution, King Louis called upon the General Estates meeting, where the three estates were allowed to discuss solutions and decide what to do based on a vote by order. didn’t matter what changes the Third Estate advocated for, the other two always outvoted them.

  • After the Third Estate was locked out of their meeting room, they went into a tennis court. They took a pledge to not leave until they had the Constitution 1791and called themselves the National Assembly.

  • On July 14, 1789, angry French people stormed the prison called Bastille. This blood-thirsty search for gun powder signified the start of the revolution.

  • Desperate for bread, and filled with the promise of change, the woman of the revolution marched to Versailles and forced the royal family to move closer to the people they refused to take care of.

  • Robespierre, who came to power shortly after the french nation became a republic, was one of the main influences of the reign of terror; he sent thousands of people to the guillotine.

  • The self-appointed Emperor of France, Napoleon was very well liked (by most) for his military success and reforms. He fought off many invasions for France and wasn't really criticized until he got too ambitious and bit off more than he could chew.
