Pi's father tells the family that they are moving to Canada. He says, "We'll sail like Columbus!" He says that they will travel on the Pacific with their animals.
Pi refuses to admit that the ship with all his family members and animals just sank. He is too depressed about the fact that he is the ONLY one left alive except for few animals."Tell me it's not real .... I'm still happy" (107)
Gift of the Goddess
Pi is very religious and practices Hinduism, Islam and Christianity and these beliefs help him thorugh the journey of his life."Jesus, Mary, Muhammad, Vishnu....." (107)
His parents and the crew of the ship acted as his protectors against the unknown, menancing waters of the Pacific. But when the ship sinks, his careful protection is snatched away from him and he has to survive alone in the deep waves."The ship sank. It made a sound like a metallic burp." (107)
Pi is back home now because he has his new family around him and "this story has a happy ending." (103)
As Pi is still stuggling to survive, he makes up a daily routine for Richard Parker and him. "If I still had the will to live, it was thanks to Richard Parker." (181)
