Welcome to my ranch. I take care of cattle and plant crops.
Impact of the Railroad
Here is the town before the railroad was put in.
Here is the town after the railroad was put in.
Many people started to farm and raise cattle because once the trains were built many people could make good money selling their crops and cattle. The trains also made it easier to ship the cattle and crops to buyers that were far away. This shows how a farmer raised cattle and planted crops. He is tending to his crops and checking on his cattle.
We can eat here, at Harvey's. I like that it is right next to the train so w ecan get off and eat.
The railroad brought many jobs to many people in New Mexico. The railroad also was an easier way to get food, fuel, and building materials to different states or cities in the country. This shows how people worked at the railroad. The illustration also shows how the crate of food is going to be shipped to wherever the train is going.
Come see our beautiful jewelery.
Boomtowns were towns that rapidly grew due to the prosperity of the town. Since trains and train tracks were being built in small towns more people were moving there and the town would spring up due to the new amount of people. My illustration shows a town that was once small, became a big city because they built a railroad that brought in many new people that were working on the railroad.
Lets settle this right now!!!
You wanna try me?!!!
The Harvey Houses were owned and developed by Fred Harvey. They were a chain of restaurants and hotels that were built next to or by railroads. This was a very good idea because people getting on or off the train that was hungry or tired could go to Harvey's and rest or eat. The illustration shows the train and Harvey's restaurant there for hungry customers getting off the train.
Dad I am hungry. That train ride was long.
Wow this is beautiful. I should tell my mom to come visit me and we can come shop here.
There was a lot more mining going on because there were better supplies being shipped on the trains so gold, silver, turquoise, copper and coal were being sold in more stores. More people would here about the amazing jewelry that was made from all of these minerals. This brought more people which then started tourism. This shows how tourism became big because the word would get out about different souvenirs and people would want to come buy them.
In the Wild West instead of settling things the normal way, if you got in an argument most people would have an argument and get really mad at each other. There were many different people in the west. There were pioneers, business people, scouts, lawmen, outlaws, gangs, gunslingers, and cowboys. In my illustration, it shows two gunslingers fighting.
