  • The War of 1812
  • Trouble with Native Americans
  • Land Battles
  • One main reason for America to go to war with Britain is because of Britain impressing american sailors for years. Impressment is when the British captured American sailors and forced them to join the British navy. Another reason is Britain destroying the Chesapeake. This is a reason because America had to uphold their honor.
  • Sea Battles
  • Many settlers were moving into the Ohio and Mississippi valleys and pushing Native Americans out of their lands. This made trouble with the Native Americans and the Indians started to fight back. The Americans went to war and successfully won but were out raged to find that the Indians were using British made whepons.
  • The Battle of New Orleans
  • The Americans and British kept driving each other in and out of Canada and America. In 1814 the British attacked Washington DC. The British later attacked the city f Baltimore. On September 12th Francis Scott, an American lawyer, watched the British bombard Fort McHenry all night but in the morning the American flag still flew which means the British didn't capture it.
  • Results of the War
  • The U.S. navel force commander Oliver Perry caught 6 British ships on lake Erie. His victory allowed William Harrison to push into upper Canada and defeat the British in a battle. The battle of Baltimore was when the British bombarded Fort McHenry all night.
  • The battle of New Orleans was the Americans most victorious battle of The War Of 1812. The Americans had 7,000 troops and the British had 7,500 troops. 2,000 British troops died in the war but only 70 Americans died. The war was unnecessary because before that America and Britain signed a peace treaty but news didn’t get to New Orleans till after the war.
  • America and Britain both claimed to have won the war although no one really won. The peace treaty didn’t settle the issues leading to the war, but they went away as peace settled over Britain. The war weakened the Indian tribe resistance in the north west territory. The Federalist Party was badly damaged and never recovered. Two of the hero’s in the war later would be elected as president, Willian Harrison and Andrew Jackson.
