  • How Are Batteries Recycled?~Chemicals in Our Lives~
  • By Shunta
  • Uh, my car batteries are dead. I don't want to dispose it...
  • Why? It's a huge waste.
  • Well Nick, you do not have to worry about the disposal.
  • I can tell you why!
  • You see how there are trucks that collects the battery waste.
  • Yes, but what do they do?
  • Batteries get recycled by parts by parts, and this is why Ontario can recycle 97% of the battery wastes.
  • Follow me!
  • Wow, I actually did not know that. That's amazing!
  • So, let's talk about the plastics. Battery's plastic cases often gets crushed, turn in to plastic pellets and it is reused for making new battery cases.
  • That's a good reuse of plastics! How about the other parts?
  • Leads from batteries also get recycled. It gets melted and then used to make new battery grids.
  • So basically, are most of battery parts recyclable?
  • That's right! And the most exciting part is the sulfuric acid. It gets neutralized and the product is very useful!
  • Um, what does it produce...?
