The Monster Are Due on Maple Street theme fear and suspicion are destructive forces
The main theme of the monsters due on maple street is fear and suspicion are destructive forces. Through scenes in the teleplay, there are many reasons explaining the theme.A part in the story that supports the theme is when Les Goodman's car turned on .This made everybody assume that Les is the monster because he is the only one who’s car worked. This shows theme fear and suspicion are destructive forces because it would make no sense for Les to be the monster if his car just turned on.They just thought he was the monster without any evidence. Why would he turn the car on if he knew it would make himself look like the monster it would not make sense for him to tell on himself. Another example that supports the theme is when Charlie just saw a dark figure and Tommy just said it is the monster so,he just grabbed the shotgun and shot Pete. This supports the theme because since Tommy and Charlie were scared with fear so the just stopped thinking which caused Pete to be killed. They didn’t think about that Pete was going to come back even tho earlier in the story Steve asked when is Steve coming back. The last piece of evidence that supports the claim is when they started calling Tommy the monster and mobbing around him and his mom. This happened because of Tommy knowing a bunch about the monsters and that caused everybody to think that Tommy is the monster. If you think that a little kids the monster how much fear do you have to have? They didn’t take one second to think and just started mobbing around him.In conclusion, don’t let fear take over your mind.
