Storyboard Text

  • Deforestation is when forests are permanetly destroyed and the land is used for something else, Timmy.
  • Dad, what's deforestation?
  • But why do people cut down trees?
  • A lot of the time it's for farming. This plot here was created after a nearby forest was cut down.
  • Oh, but that doesn't seem bad, so why is it such a big deal?
  • Or it can be for housing, people cut down the trees so they have a place to build their homes, like on this street.
  • Oh, so sea levels are rising?
  • Because when you cut down a tree, a lot of carbon is released into the air. This carbon is slowly making the world very hot, which is melting the ice at places like Antarctica.
  • Exactly, and the water may swallow several coastal cities. Deforestation also leaves animals like these without homes.
  • Oh no!
  • Me too, Timmy, Me too.
  • Dad, I hope this forest is still here when I grow up.
