The King is caught trying to escape France and is accused of treason. He is taken back to Paris where he is imprisoned, and then beheaded.
The Reign of terror is when France became a republic. One man Maximilien Robespierre wanted stronger action, he was convinced to that to get control any action was justifiable. Anyone that was supposedly against the revolution was executed without much evidence. In the end they executed over 20,000 people.

The End of the Revolution
After being appointed into the French government, Napoleon began a series of wars gaining France new lands. He also restored order in France breaking the power of the radical supporters of the revolution, as well as bringing many of those ideas into the French government.

Napoleon keeps extending the French territory, but is eventually stopped by other countries that joined together. Napoleon was then banished to St. Helena, a small island in the south Atlantic. He was told never to return, and he stayed there until he died in 1821. This marked the end of the French Revolution.
