Parvana is a responsible person and puts her family first or her work before playing or having fun. She shows this by allowing them to make her a boy to go out sell things, then buy food for her family.
Nooria in the story is the older sister to Parvana, Maryam, and Ali. In most of the story, probably all of it, she was mean to Parvana and tried to boss her around. However, at the end of the story she got married and was becoming nicer,.
At the beginning of the story and somewhat middle, Mother/Fatana was a good, happy Mother with a happy family. Until one day the Taliban invaded their home and took her husband/ their father prisoner. After that Mother became depressed, distressed.
Mrs. Weera met Parvana while she was running from the Taliban one day out of the market trying to buy food for her family. Mrs. Weera found out what had all happened to Parvana and her mother after Dad's arrest, she was like Parvana's second mother now.
Shauzia used to go to Parvana's school before the Taliban invaded their country, Afghanistan. One day they met at the market selling things, however Parvana was the first to recognize her. From there, they became good friends and they even dug up bones. She had a plan to leave the country but Paravana decided to stay.
Maryam is one of the younger kids in the story. She's five. She can only slightly understand what has happened. She does behave well, however during the hot days, the small ones have their moments. Yes, she listened and make as much noise as Ali, also one of thr younger ones. Maryam is respectful.
