- Thomas Jefferson assigned Merriweather Lewis the captain of the journey into the west of the United States after purchasing a huge amount of the United States. Merriweather Lewis later made William Clark his co-captain.
- Their journey to travel across the United States to the Pacific Ocean took about two and a half years.
- The crew were low on supplies and were facing cold temperatures. They started facing challenges but they still continued on their journey.
- Sacagawea a Native American woman helped Lewis and Clark explore the Louisiana territory and offered them food.
- During their journey some of their equipment was damaged, their food supply was low, but they still continued and only a total of two people died.
- In the end they made it to the other side of the United States and reached the Pacific Ocean and discovered a large amount of species of plants and animals.
