Rainsford had an internal conflict because he could not figure out how to best stay alive and escape the hunt.
"Rainsford knew he could do one of two things. He could stay where he was and wait. That was suicide. He could flee. That was postponing the inevitable. For a moment he stood there, thinking" (Most Dangerous Game).
Rainsford overcame his internal conflict by ignoring his doubts and jumping off the cliff to his safety.
