  • "Some years ago, we were in the Arridi desert...I had to match Tug against and Arridian stallion called Sandstorm."(152) This memory is important because it shows how fast Tug is. It also shows ranger horses are the fastest and have the most endurance. It also shows that Maddie's horse will lose against Tug in a race.
  • Again and Again
  • "...the entire section of the roof above and around where she was standing gave way...Alyss never had a chance."(43) This memory is important because it is Will's wife's death. It also shows why Will might ac the way he is. It is also a main characters death, which is pretty important.
  • Again and Again

  • Again and Again
  • "Maddie smelled that heady salt smell once more."(337) The author keeps bringing up the smell of salt because it reminds Will of his first ranger gathering and Maddie's first mission. It also tells them when they are near a certain place, like their home.
  • "She stood, exhausted, hands on her hips..."(201) The author keeps bringing this up because it is showing the reader's how tired she is. It also shows how out of shape she is and how sick she is. She would normally easily beable to do that.
  • "He could keep going for another two days if I asked him to"(314)  The author keeps bringing this up because he wants to show how fast and the great the endurance of Tug. It also shows how geat ranger horses are like Tug.
