  • Mass hysteria leads to confusion. This illustrates the theme because while the men came to arrest Elizabeth Proctor trying to arrest her about a poppet Mary Warren was confused because that was her poppet and didn't see what the big deal was.  
  • Mass hysteria leads to confusion. This illustrates the theme because before the trials were a thing Giles Corey mentioned that he was curious about book hos wife were reading. A few weeks after that the court used his mention as an accusation of witchcraft. 
  • Mass hysteria leads to confusion. This illustrates the theme because while the men are presenting the evidence to defend their wives the girls pretend to see a yellow bird everyone else is confused because they can't see it.
