Jonas, you have been chosen to be the Receiver of Memory.
Jonas has been assigned to be the Receiver of Memory. He is responsible for memories of the community.
The rules for Jonas' training are: His first rule tells him to report to the Annex entrance behind the house of the old each day. His second rule tells him to go home after training each day.
Every ones house is the same
What everyone else is seeing
The 3 differences between Givers home and every other home in the community are; comfortable;furnished living area, there are a lot of books, and there are also locked doors. Those are so other people don't see what is in there because no one else is supposed to know about it other than the Giver and Jonas.
What Jonas is seeing
The memories the Giver transmits to Jonas the first day are; the feeling of snow like being able to sled and being cold and also seeing hills. Another thing is sunburn and the heat, also the pain that the sunburn causes.
The community is not allowed to make decisions because there is sameness throught the community and with people being allowed to make decisions there wouldn't be sameness.
The capacity to see beyond is the ability to use any of the senses that were present in the memories, but not in the community. For Jonas its the ability to see color.
